  • Thank you SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa will never be the same. That sums up the end of this World Cup 2010 Event. The big news was that it all ended so well, so successfully managed, so celebratory, so fun, so new, so different and so \"unexpressionable.\" No words to describe the true atmosphere.

The other news of course was that Spain won the World Cup South Africa 2010, and because we knew this already, it was NOT the breaking news tonight. The Octopus Paul already told us so.
Thousands of fans in a stadium that was full at more than 98,000 people were so happy that the event on African soil had been a success. The best World Cup Event ever. The spectacular show that preceded the game was so awesome! The former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela showed up. The crowd went wild!

In fact, Spain had never been in a World Cup final and was attempting to become one of the few reigning European champions to follow up with a world championship. The Netherlands, on the other hand, was well-known for disappointment at the finals, having lost twice to host nations, in 1974 in West Germany and then in 1978 at Argentina. Both teams were considered the best to never have won a Cup. Now Spain has got it.

Apart from the actual football game Africa has given new vocabulary to the world:
    1. Jabulani: the ball meaning \"celebrate.\"
    2. Vuvuzela: The cheering horn. Traditionally made and inspired from the kudu animal horn. It was originally used to summon distant villagers to attend community gatherings.
    3. AYOBA!! Meaning great! Or Enjoy! a slang term used by South Africans to express amazement.
    4. Makarapa: The fancy very colourful hard hat worn by the fans.
    5. Shibobo: Fancy style footwork of playing football.
    6. Waka Waka: Fire-Fire or Hot-hot!
    7. Idiski: Meaning football.
    8. Tsamaya: meaning a breath-taking piece of skill.
    9. \"Ayeye\" or \"Ayoyoyo.\": It was originally meant as an approval/appreciation of good dancing.
    10. Leraparapa: A variation of vuvuzela design.

These are just a few of the many words the visiting fans will take away from Africa.
Football may often be called the universal language, but when you are in South Africa, there is a certain terminology you need to know to ensure an unforgettable experience in the Rainbow Nation. Actually many thousands of fans from all over the world are now saying that during this World Cup 2010; \"Africa has given birth to a Rainbow World!\"
THANK YOU SOUTH AFRICA FOR THE BIGGEST WORLD CUP EVER !!!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. We had such a warm welcome and we were accomodated and made comfortable as we had two old ladies both over 70 with us. The staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere was great. We also had their breakfast which was most enjoyable.

Udo received us in a very friendly (homely?) manner and showed us to our rooms. He then provided (was Sunday night) some DVDs to watch in our rooms. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Bed was superb. He also advised us where to go for dinner - was superb. Next morning we had a very good breakfast and he again assisted us by establishing exactly where the conference centre was where we had to present ourselves. About an half hour after our departure he phoned to enquire if we reached our destination. A very good experience.

The stay at Alpine Inn was fantastic. No words to describe the hospitality, and the wonderful dinner and breakfast that was served. We already told all the family about it and recommended the guest house very strongly. Really really wonderful to say the least.

The Alpine Inn Hotel’s main building is a traditional old Cape Dutch style house, nestled in the tranquil Garden Route area of South Africa.

The Alpine Inn Hotel is designed on a German theme and is characterized by the traditional meaning of the German word “Stube”, which describes a cosy, family orientated environment with a traditional German atmosphere and delicious German cuisine. We offer friendly German hospitality to all our guests.

Our beautiful Hotel Village comprises cottages, suites and apartments and also features a Tea Garden, a cosy bar and a German Restaurant. Other facilities include a Conference Centre and an exclusive Beauty Salon.

The Alpine Inn Hotel is located directly opposite the entrance of the renowned Fancourt Golf Estate and is a comfortable sojourn catering for both the business traveller and the holidaymaker. We have private suites for Newlyweds and also family friendly accommodation.

The Alpine Inn Hotel is only seven kilometers from both the George Airport and the historic town of George. It is also within easy reach of the many attractive tourist destinations on the Garden Route and the Outeniqua Country Hop (which winds up from the delightful Herold’s Bay on the R404, through scenic farmlands to explore strawberry and herb farms, cheese stalls and candlemaking – where adults and children alike can enjoy the great outdoors, strawberry picking, horse riding and a bird sanctuary).

The area consists of a remarkable blend of mountains, rivers and forests (both indigenous and cultivated). Colourful shrubs and wildflowers abound and the beaches are glorious! No wonder the Hottentots, who inhabited the district, named the area Outeniqua which means “man laden with honey”.

Garden Route
This area, a rival to the ancient garden of Eden, gets its name from the tranquil lakes, unspoilt estuaries and lagoons and dramatic mountains including the Wilderness Area, Tsitsikama National Park, Storm\'s River Gorge, Knysna and its lagoon as well as the long stretches of beach in the beautiful Plettenberg Bay. Just behind the coastal belt with its miles of golden beaches and rugged cliffs plunging almost vertically down to rock strewen beaches lie well-watered coastal plains with indigenous forests and fynbos covered mountain slopes. In the eastern section lies Baviaanskloof, a rugged mountain wilderness, the Amatola Mountain range, with its magnificent indigenous forest and beautiful waterfalls, The Zuurberg Mountain range and Addo Elephant Park, named after the magnificent animals that are its main but not only attraction. The park is also home to the black rhino and flightless dung beetle. It is the start of the mountain range that forms the backbone of the country, namely the mighty Drakensberg. Activities in this area include hiking, scuba diving, and other adventure sports to just lazing in luxury on the golden beaches and in 5 star forest hide-always.

Climate: The Garden Route region enjoys a moderate climate all year round. Lowest rainfall occurs during winter with a yearly average of 770mm. The average temperature in January is 26C and during the winter months (June – August) falls to about 18C – still ideal conditions for outdoor activities.

We look forward to welcoming you to nature’s beauty and the tranquil environment of the Garden Route…..and the Alpine Inn Hotel.
